This weeks radar band in NME is the south London-based Breton. Currently living, recording and very possibly freezing to death in a disused bank, with only Carhartt to keep them warm!!
Thanks to ‘This Gent‘ for featuring Carhartt when meeting up with Mikill Pane this week…
“We’ve been following Mikill’s (pronounced ‘mike-ill’) career for a long time now, a career that gets more exciting everyday and we were honoured that on his first day off from his busy tour with friend Ed Sheeran we got to shoot him.
We first met Mikill Pane at the start of his music career several years ago and enjoyed going to his gigs around East London where we were refreshed by his audience engagement and confidence. Since then we’ve heard him on ‘Little Lady’, a track which featured on Ed Sheeran’s No.5 Collaborations EP, Radio 1?s Huw Stephens give him the airtime he is due and he recently appeared on Channel 4?s ‘Random Acts’, but this is just the start of it.
Over the years of being on the music scene Mikill has gathered up a huge fanbase who get to enjoy his quick wit on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on an hourly basis and each and everyone of these fans will be just as pleased as us to see him making it.”
An ironic and sophisticated sense of future is perfectly expressed by the creative touch of Alexander Basile, Cologne based photographer that shot the Carhartt Work in Progress Spring / Summer 2012 campaign.
Basile has been working with Carhartt Working in Progress for 11 years now, and together with the brand he gave birth to the ‘freedom of images’ phenomenon.
The connection between this vivid artist and the Carhartt WIP products has always been explosively effective.
Spring / Summer 2012 campaign ‘Constructed Reality’ was shot and performed in everyday scenery, intentionally looking fake, contemplating beyond, constructing reality.
“Last spring a bunch of Carhartt team riders packed their bags, said farewell to their respective countries and met up at JFK airport for two weeks of pushing around and eating fried food.
Waiting for them at the airport was 5boro team manager Tombo, who would take them to meet the rest of his crew, which was the whole idea behind this trip”
